A woman, Mrs. Happiness Nwafor was on Tuesday docked in a Magistrates’ Court in Dutse, Abuja, for allegedly receiving N600,000 stolen from a Point of Sale, POS, operator
The police charged Nwafor who lives in Zuba, Abuja, with criminal conspiracy and theft. The defendant however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecuting Counsel, Mr. Babajide Olanipekun, told the court that the complainant, Mr. Sabastine Amediegwu, who lives in Zuba, Abuja, reported the incident at the Zuba Police Station on March 27.
Olanipekun told the court that the defendant benefited from an illegal transfer of N600,000 from the complainant’s POS attendant. During police investigation, he said, Nwafor couldn’t give a satisfactory explanation of how she got the money.

The Defense Counsel, Okara Brutus, pleaded with the court to admit his client to bail, citing the provisions of Section 168 of the Administration of Justice Act and Section 35 sub-section I of the 1999 Constitution as Amended.
The police said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 97 and 288 of the Penal Code Law.
Magistrate Evelyn Gara admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.
She ordered that the surety must most have a valid identification card and must live within the jurisdiction of the court. Gara adjourned the matter until July 20 for hearing.
