A 19-year-old prospective university student, Opesusi Faith Timilehin, has reportedly committed suicide after scoring190 in the recent UTME result, only to receive an admission offer shortly after her passing.
Faith, who scored 190 in this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, reportedly believed her performance was insufficient, especially when compared to her previous score in 2024. She had aspired to study Microbiology.
According to reports, Faith ingested a rodenticide known locally as “Push Out” at her residence in Odogunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos, where she was staying with her elder sibling.
She was rushed to Kolak Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after. Just 30 minutes later, a provisional admission offer from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board was delivered to her email.

“She was under pressure and had been emotionally disturbed over the result,” said a close friend. “The email confirming her admission came after she passed. It’s truly heartbreaking.”
The deceased, originally from Abeokuta, Ogun State, was described by neighbors as quiet, humble, and full of promise.
The community is now in mourning, and many are calling for urgent reforms in Nigeria’s education system, particularly in light of reported mass failures in the 2025 UTME.
Her grieving parents have since traveled from Abeokuta to retrieve her body for burial.
