Many residents of the Federal Capital Territory have criticised the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC,over the persistent epileptic power supply across several communities.
Residents in Kubwa, Kuje, and Dutse told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Sunday that they barely enjoy five hours of electricity daily, urging AEDC to upgrade its infrastructure to meet customer needs.
Mrs. Eniola Williams, a civil servant in Phase 2, Kubwa, described the situation as frustrating, noting that power supply in her area had not exceeded three hours daily in the last three months.
“It would be better if we had power one day on and one day off instead of what we are currently facing,” she said. “AEDC should improve its infrastructure so customers get value for their money.”
Another resident, Mrs. Oluchi Emeka, also in Kubwa, said the irregular power supply had crippled small businesses in the area.

“Our businesses have collapsed because we barely get five hours of power daily,” she lamented.
In Kuje, an engineer, Mr. Emmanuel Ogar, said the poor supply was affecting daily life and household activities.
“We can’t even store food in our refrigerators; everything spoils,” he said, appealing to AEDC to take immediate measures to improve supply.
Similarly, a welder in Kuje, Mr. Emmanuel Ogbomo, said the unstable electricity had driven away his customers.
“Some days, we don’t even get power for four hours. It’s affecting my work badly,” he said, calling for urgent infrastructural upgrades.
In Dutse, fashion designer Mrs. Dorcas Edet said she often had to work at night because electricity was only available during late hours.
“I now sew mostly at night since there’s no power during the day,” she said.
Residents appealed to AEDC to take urgent action to ensure stable and reliable power supply across the affected communities.
