MTN Nigeria has opened applications for the fifth edition of its Media Innovation Program expanding the cohort to 25 fellows from 20 in previous editions.

Mr Tobe Okigbo, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, MTN Nigeria, said in a statement on Saturday that the expansion symbolises its 25th anniversary.

Okigbo said it underscores MTN commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s media landscape through capacity building and innovation.

He said that the programme reflects its investment in media professionals who shape narratives around connectivity, digital transformation and societal development.

According to him, the programme equips participants with knowledge, tools and networks required to thrive in a rapidly evolving media and technology environment.

‘’The 2026 edition would feature an expanded cohort, broader curriculum and a stronger pan-African outlook to enhance participants’ exposure.

‘’The programme demonstrates the organisation’s commitment to supporting the growth of the media industry.

“The expansion to 25 fellows this year reflects our 25-year milestone and reinforces the need to invest in people and ideas that will shape the future of the media industry,” he said.

Okigbo added that the initiative provides access to knowledge, exposure and engagement with evolving industry realities.

Launched in 2022 in partnership with the School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University, the fully funded six month certificate programme has grown into a leading media capacity development platform in Africa.

The programme includes academic sessions at the School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University, alongside industry engagements and an international study visit.

MTN Nigeria said the international component in South Africa would feature academic sessions at the University of Johannesburg and engagements with media, business and policy leaders.

It also said the programme had built a strong alumni network, with participants occupying key roles across media organisations and contributing to public discourse through impactful storytelling.

According to the company, applications are open via the School of Media and Communication website and will close on April 22, 2026.

It added that shortlisted candidates would undergo a competitive selection process, while successful applicants would begin the programme in May 2026.

Dr Ikechukwu Obiaya, Dean, School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University, said the programme combines academic rigour with practical relevance.

Obiaya said it aligns with the institution’s goal of producing competent professionals capable of making meaningful contributions to society.

He said  that the programme integrates academic depth, industry insight and practical engagement to equip participants with critical thinking and professional skills.

The programme is open to media practitioners and digital content creators across print, electronic, digital and social media, with applicants expected to demonstrate commitment to innovation and professional development.
