Residents of Ewatto, Ewohimi, Ohordua and neighbouring communities in Edo State will receive free medical services on Monday as part of activities marking the commissioning of the Chief Dr. Leemon Ikpea Medical Centre, Ewatto Annex, of the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, ISTH.
The outreach, organised in honour of Chief Dr. Leemon Ikpea, will hold at the new medical centre in Ewatto, Esan South-East Local Government Area, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Admission is free, with no registration fee, and walk-ins are welcome.
Organisers said the exercise is aimed at improving access to healthcare and bringing essential medical services closer to the communities.
Services to be offered free of charge include general medical consultation, blood pressure and blood sugar screening, breast examination, prostate-specific antigen screening for men, eye examination and laboratory investigations.

Prescribed medications will also be given free, subject to medical assessment and availability, while attendees may receive other treatments as determined by the attending health professionals.
The organisers noted that many people live with hypertension, diabetes, eye conditions and other illnesses without knowing it, as such diseases often develop silently and can become serious when left undetected.
Residents were urged not to wait until they fall seriously ill before checking their health, and families were encouraged to bring elderly relatives who have been unable to access regular healthcare.
The appeal also went to community stakeholders. Traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth organisations, women associations, town unions and other groups were asked to help spread information about the exercise across Ewatto, Ewohimi, Ohordua and surrounding communities, “so that no one misses out simply because they did not hear about it.”
Monday’s outreach forms part of activities marking the formal commissioning of the Chief Dr. Leemon Ikpea Medical Centre, Ewatto Annex, which organisers described as a commitment to promoting “healthier families and a healthier community.”
