Bowen University has recorded a landmark academic achievement with the graduation of Lotechukwu Isioma Ikpo, who became the institution’s first-ever student to attain a perfect 5.0/5.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average.

Her remarkable feat was announced during the university’s 25th Convocation Ceremony held on Saturday sparking widespread celebration within the Bowen community and beyond.

Lotechukwu, who emerged as the Best Graduating Student, swept multiple awards throughout the ceremony, reflecting her exceptional performance across all academic sessions.

Her name echoed repeatedly during the roll call of prize winners, signalling a rare level of excellence even by Bowen’s high academic standards.

In a statement shared on its official Facebook page, Bowen University highlighted the depth of her journey, noting that her path to success was far from smooth.

The institution revealed that she began her academic pursuit through its Advanced Level Programme and faced a profound personal loss when she lost her father during her second year.

Instead of breaking her spirit, the tragedy fueled her determination, pushing her to excel beyond expectations.

According to the university, her resilience was evident as she climbed the stage several times to receive awards, including a fully funded Master’s scholarship — one of the highest recognitions awarded to top performers.

The institution described her story as a powerful testament to the impact of perseverance, discipline, and faith.

“As the hall erupted in applause, Lotechukwu stood as living proof that academic excellence is possible even in the face of adversity,” the school said, adding that her journey should inspire students across Nigeria.

Beyond her grades, Lotechukwu’s achievement has attracted national attention, with many celebrating her dedication, emotional strength, and ability to convert grief into motivation.

Education experts have also praised the milestone, noting that perfect CGPAs remain extremely rare across Nigerian tertiary institutions.

Bowen University used the occasion to challenge other students to pursue excellence with passion and purpose.

In its message to the student body, the university encouraged them to see their academic journeys as opportunities to create “limitless” stories of their own.

Lotechukwu’s accomplishment stands as one of the major highlights of the university’s 25th Convocation and underscores Bowen’s continued commitment to raising graduates who demonstrate academic discipline, integrity, and resilience.
