Nasarawa State Gov. Abdullahi Sule says his administration’s drive toward industrializing the state is aimed at creating jobs and improving the standard of living of the people.
Sule stated this on Wednesday in Lafia when he received the newly elected officials of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Nasarawa State Council.
The governor said that apart from attracting investors to the state’s mining sector, his administration was also making significant investments in agriculture.
“One of the areas that excites me most is agriculture. We have just established a 3,300-hectare rice farm, and we have started harvesting.
“The commodity will soon hit the market under the state brand name, NASACCO, rice,” he said.

Sule reiterated his commitment to initiating projects and programmes that would have direct impact on the lives of citizens.
According to him, unemployment remains one of the major causes of insecurity in the northern part of the country.
“The reason we are having serious challenges in the North is that many people have nothing to do, and that contributes to insecurity.
“When we were younger, there were textile industries in Kaduna and several small-scale factories across the region where people had jobs to do, and some actively involved in farming; we were not hearing of insecurity,” the governor said.
He congratulated the newly inaugurated Correspondents’ Chapel executives and urged them to uphold the ethics of the journalism profession.
Mr. Abubakar Abdullahi, the Chairman of the Chapel, said the visit was to familiarize the new leadership of the Chapel with the governor.
He commended the Sule’s administration for implementing impactful projects, including the 3,300-hectare NASACCO rice farm, flyover and underpasses in Lafia, Akwanga and Keffi, as well as the construction of the new state secretariat complex in Lafia.
“Your administration has consistently demonstrated support and commitment to the growth of the journalism profession.
“We appreciate the cordial relationship we have enjoyed and look forward to its sustenance,” Abdullahi added.
