The political crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP deepened on Monday as the faction aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, announced an emergency round of meetings involving two of the party’s highest decision-making bodies.
The Wike-backed bloc revealed plans for urgent sessions of both the Board of Trustees and the National Executive Committee, scheduled for Tuesday, November 18, 2025, a move aimed at addressing the turbulence rocking the opposition party.
According to the notice signed by factional National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu and circulated on X through Lere Olayinka, media aide to the FCT minister, the meetings will take place at the NEC Hall of the PDP National Secretariat in Wadata Plaza, Abuja.
The BoT is expected to convene at 11 a.m., followed by the NEC at 2 p.m. The announcement emphasized the critical nature of the deliberations, urging all invited stakeholders to attend without fail.
This call for emergency consultations comes just days after a major shake-up at the PDP’s 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, where the party expelled several high-ranking members for alleged anti-party activities.
Those affected include Wike himself, Anyanwu, former National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade, former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, and Imo PDP Chairman Austin Nwachukwu. Their expulsion marked one of the most consequential disciplinary decisions in the party’s recent history.

The motion to expel the members was initiated by former Deputy National Chairman (South), Bode George, and seconded by Bauchi State PDP Chairman Samaila Buga. The proposal was then put to a voice vote by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who also chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum.
Delegates overwhelmingly supported the expulsions, signaling a decisive stance by mainstream party leaders against factions seen as challenging the party’s unity and direction.
The announcement of the emergency meetings by the Wike-backed camp indicates that the expelled members and their allies are not backing down and may be preparing a coordinated response.
The internal battle has raised concerns about the stability of the PDP, particularly as the party navigates its role as Nigeria’s main opposition force.
With both camps digging in, the PDP faces a pivotal moment that could redefine its structure, leadership, and long-term political relevance.
All eyes are now on Tuesday’s emergency meetings as tensions continue to mount across party lines.
