Sonorous Nigerian singer Sola Allyson has addressed a long-debated question among fans and critics: why the name “Jesus” is noticeably absent from her spiritually rich songs.
In a candid conversation with Oyinmomo TV,, uploaded on YouTube on Friday, the Eji Owuro crooner firmly clarified her musical philosophy and personal convictions. She began by distancing herself from a label many listeners have placed on her over the years.
“I have never called myself a gospel artiste. My name is Sola Allyson — I am a singer,” she said, stressing that the categorisation emerged from how people interpret the calm and soul-stirring nature of her music.
Allyson explained that her creative expression flows directly from her heart, shaped by her life experiences and spiritual reflections. She noted that her work is not designed to fit into any religious group or satisfy public expectations about what “gospel” music should sound like.
A major highlight of the interview was her stance on intentionally avoiding the name of Jesus in her songs. Addressing this directly, Allyson said her artistry is rooted in sincerity rather than conforming to what some might view as markers of spirituality.
“Jesus Himself never said we should be shouting His name everywhere or using His name for PR and marketing. My music is not about name-dropping to prove spirituality,” she stated.

She added that she believes songs anchored in truth, peace, wisdom and divine guidance can uplift listeners without repeatedly mentioning specific religious names. To her, the power of her music lies in the message, not in religious branding.
Her goal, she explained, has always been to inspire introspection, personal growth and an honest connection to God — however listeners understand the Divine.
“My songs are for everybody — Christians, Muslims, traditional believers, free-thinkers — because life’s truths are universal. As long as the song brings you peace, makes you think deeply, and draws you closer to light and goodness, my assignment is done,” she said.
Allyson believes her insistence on authenticity has kept her music timeless and borderless, allowing it to resonate across cultures and beliefs without compromising who she is.
The singer’s latest comments put to rest years of debates about her lyrical choices while offering deeper insight into the values that guide her artistry.
