The United States Embassy in Abuja has cautioned Nigerians against engaging in any form of fraud during the process of applying for U.S. visas, warning that offenders could face permanent bans from entering the country.
The advisory was issued in a statement shared on the embassy’s official X handle, where it emphasised that providing false information or submitting fake documents during visa applications carries severe consequences under U.S. immigration law.
The embassy stressed that any form of misrepresentation, including lying about personal details or presenting falsified documents, could result in lifelong ineligibility for a U.S. visa.
It noted that such penalties are strictly enforced and leave little or no room for reversal once established.
“Visa fraud has serious consequences. Lying or providing fake documents can lead to permanent visa bans under U.S. immigration law,” the statement read.

The warning comes amid heightened efforts by U.S. authorities to address growing cases of document falsification and misrepresentation in visa applications.
Officials have continued to emphasise that honesty and transparency remain central requirements for all applicants seeking entry into the United States.
The embassy also reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining strong diplomatic relations with Nigeria, stressing that cooperation between both countries remains vital.
“The United States looks forward to continuing to work together with Nigeria on issues of mutual concern,” the statement added.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the development follows ongoing public sensitisation campaigns and diplomatic engagements between Nigerian authorities and the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Richard Mills, aimed at strengthening lawful migration processes and curbing visa-related fraud.
