The Kano State Hospitals Management Board has ordered a full investigation into the death of a housewife, Aishatu Umar, who reportedly died after surgery at Abubakar Imam Urology Centre, Kano, amid allegations of medical negligence.

The directive was announced Tuesday in a statement by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Samira Suleiman.

The Executive Secretary, Dr Mansur Mudi Nagoda, expressed concern and assured the public of a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation.

“The Kano State Hospitals Management Board has taken note of the distressing report concerning the late Aishatu Umar,” the statement said.

“An immediate and detailed investigation has been ordered to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident at Abubakar Imam Urology Centre.”

The board stated that patient safety remains a priority and promised appropriate action if negligence is confirmed.

Condolences were extended to the family.

The probe followed a social media post by a family member, Abubakar Muhammed, who accused the hospital of gross negligence.

He said the deceased, a mother of five, underwent surgery in September and later suffered severe abdominal pain.

He alleged she repeatedly returned to the hospital and was given only pain relief medication.

Tests conducted days before her death reportedly showed a pair of surgical scissors left inside her body.

Muhammed said she died on the morning corrective surgery was scheduled.

The case comes amid renewed public concern over medical negligence following similar allegations by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie against Euracare Multispecialist Hospital, Lagos.
