The Super Eagles recorded a 2-1 victory over the Iran national football team in a friendly match on Friday, thanks to goals from Moses Simon and Akor Adams.

Nigeria struck early when Simon found the net in the 7th minute, assisted by Samuel Chukwueze. The Super Eagles doubled their lead in the 52nd minute through Akor Adams, set up by Ademola Lookman.

Mehdi Taremi pulled one back for Iran in the 67th minute, but Nigeria held on to secure the win.

The friendly is part of Nigeria’s preparations for upcoming fixtures, giving Coach Eric Chelle the opportunity to test combinations and sharpen the squad ahead of competitive matches.

Looking ahead, the Super Eagles will face Jordan national football team in an international friendly on March 31 at Mardan Stadyumu in Antalya, Turkey. The match is part of a four-nation tournament designed to provide competitive action for teams that have qualified for the World Cup and for squad rebuilding.

Despite these preparations, Nigeria will not participate in the World Cup in June, making these friendlies crucial for team development and maintaining momentum.

Fans remain optimistic about the Super Eagles’ attacking flair as the team continues to rebuild and gain experience on the international stage.

In another development,

The head coach of the Argentina national football team, Lionel Scaloni, has expressed his determination to see Lionel Messi feature at the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

Fabrizio Romano’s X post on Friday, quoted Scaloni as saying, “I’ll do everything possible for Messi to be there at the World Cup. I think for the good of football he has to be there, but he’s the one who will decide.”

The Inter Miami forward, widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, has yet to confirm whether he will participate in the next World Cup, following Argentina’s victory at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Scaloni’s remarks reflect both his optimism and respect for Messi’s personal decision, highlighting the star player’s unique impact on Argentina and global football.

Fans around the world are eagerly awaiting Messi’s decision, hoping to see him take part in one more campaign on football’s biggest stage.

Meanwhile, Inter Miami have announced that Messi is set to become part of a rare and unique case in global sports: an athlete regularly playing at his home stadium with a stand named in his honour, the club said
