A tragic accident in the Oke-Ila area of Aramoko-Ekiti has claimed the life of Promise Farotimi, a 21-year-old student at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE.

The 300-level Building Technology student was reportedly asleep at home over the weekend when a heavy-duty truck lost control and rammed into his family’s residence. The fatal crash occurred in the Ekiti West Local Government Area, cutting short the life of the young undergraduate in a devastating instant.

In the wake of the disaster, the victim’s father, Rufus Farotimi, has made an impassioned plea for justice and urgent financial assistance. Beyond the heartbreaking loss of his son, the elder Farotimi revealed that the impact of the truck left his entire family homeless and without shelter. He is calling on the relevant authorities and the company responsible for the vehicle to provide support as they grapple with the double tragedy of bereavement and displacement.

The grieving father, Rufus Farotimi, has described the incident as a devastating double tragedy that has stripped him of both his son and his sanctuary. Speaking on Sunday, he lamented the total destruction of his home and personal belongings, revealing that he has been left with nothing but the clothes on his back, provided by his younger brother. “Everything is gone,” he cried, highlighting the sudden, absolute nature of the loss that has left his family displaced and heartbroken.

According to Mr. Farotimi, the truck driver immediately fled the scene following the fatal crash to evade the consequences. However, local residents managed to apprehend the driver’s assistant, commonly referred to as an “operator boy,” during the chaos. As the family grapples with their immense loss, they are now focused on seeking accountability for the driver’s actions and the restoration of their livelihood.

Documents recovered from the truck—including waybills—identified the driver as Shuaibu and revealed the vehicle was transporting natural gypsum. The recovered paperwork also featured a company letterhead, providing key evidence for identifying those responsible for the crash.

Although police have evacuated his son’s remains and launched an investigation, Mr. Farotimi expressed deep concern that the driver remains at large days after the crash. He is calling on security agencies to intensify the manhunt for the fleeing suspect and is urging the company involved to take full responsibility for the tragedy.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abutu Sunday, confirmed that the case has been officially transferred to the State Traffic Section for a comprehensive investigation.
