The Police Command in Oyo State has confirmed that two persons died, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a multiple accident that happened at Soka junction on the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway on Saturday night.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed that the accident, which occurred on Saturday at about 22:10 hours, was caused by a white HOWO truck with registration number Gombe GEM696XE, driven by one Abdullahi Bashiru.

He said the truck driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle due to reckless driving and excessive speed, causing it to ram into other vehicles and pedestrians.

Olayinka said the truck damaged multiple vehicles, including a Toyota Venza and a BMW car, among others.

“The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Olugbenga, commiserates with families of the deceased and prays for the quick recovery of the injured victims,” he said.

Olayinka assured the general public that the command had commenced thorough investigation to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The PRO urged members of the public, particularly motorists to exercise caution, adhere strictly to traffic regulations, and avoid excessive speed to prevent needless loss of lives.

“The Police Command in Oyo State remains committed to the protection of lives and property. We therefore urged residents to continue to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and useful information,” Olayinka said.
