The last surviving child of Ooni Ademiluyi Ajagun, the 48th Ooni of Ife, Princess Rafatu Awofisayo, has passed on at the age of 102.

The current Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Jaja II, has paid glowing tributes to the deceased, describing her transition as the end of a remarkable era.

This is contained in a statement by the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Ooni’s Palace, Mr. Moses Olafare, on Wednesday, in Ile-Ife.

According to the Ooni, the late Awofisayo lived a fulfilled life worthy of celebration rather than mourning, having dedicated over a century to the service of humanity, faith, and the preservation of Yoruba royal heritage.

Reflecting on her royal lineage, the Ooni said that the deceased upheld the legacy of her father, Ooni Ademiluyi Ajagun, with dignity and pride.

He described her as a custodian of culture who preserved the traditions and values of the Oodua race with exceptional grace.

Oba Ogunwusi further praised her virtues of humility, wisdom, and motherly love, adding that she nurtured generations and offered guidance to many, earning her widespread respect across religious and cultural divides.

He also highlighted her pivotal role as the Iya Adinni of Ifeland, where she stood as a pillar within the Muslim community.

He commended her unwavering commitment to the growth of Islam, emphasising her contributions to fostering unity, discipline, and compassion among adherents within Ile-Ife and beyond.

” Mama was more than a royal figure; she was a spiritual beacon and a bridge between generations, whose life reflected divine grace and purpose,” he said.

The royal father urged the people of Ifeland and beyond to celebrate her legacy by living purposeful lives rooted in service, unity, and faith, emphasising that her 102 years on earth stood as a testament to a life richly blessed.

The Traditional Ruler prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul and expressed confidence that her legacy would continue to inspire generations to come.
