Some residents of Lagos on Friday commended telecommunications operators for compensating subscribers with airtime following failed transactions and poor network services.

The commendation followed a directive by the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, mandating the compensation for the experience which occurred between November 2025 and January 2026.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria, some subscribers described the move as a demonstration of the NCC’s concern for consumers’ satisfaction which would encourage improved service delivery in the sector.

Mrs. Comfort Olajide, said the directive was a positive step by the commission and showed that subscribers’ complaints were being taken seriously.

“The directive is a good move from the NCC, and it shows that the commission values subscribers and their experiences,” she said.

Another resident, Mr. Kayode Johnson, said he received airtime compensation from MTN in line with the NCC’s directive.

Johnson described the compensation as commendable, adding that it would push telecom operators to improve their systems and provide better services to customers.

“It is a good development, and it will encourage telecom companies to sit up and improve their network services,” he said.

However, Mrs. Caroline Akinjide said she had yet to receive any compensation in spite of experiencing intermittent poor network service.

She urged telecom operators to improve their service delivery to ensure that customers enjoyed reliable connectivity.
