Five women were killed Friday in an auto crash involving an L300 commercial bus and a Leyland truck at Odumudu Junction, Akwa in Anambra State.

Five others were injured in the accident which occurred at approximately 7:30 am on Friday, involving  ten victims comprising three males and seven females.

An eyewitness at the scene disclosed that the accident was triggered by a failed section of the road in the vicinity.

Both vehicles were said to be traveling in opposite directions when they reached the problematic spot. At that point, the container on the truck toppled over onto the bus, crushing several occupants.

Confirming the incident, the Acting Sector Public Education Officer of the Federal Roads Safety Corps, FRSC, RC Margaret Onabe revealed that five women tragically lost their lives in the accident while the remaining five suffered various degrees of injuries.

Onabe disclosed that the FRSC’s rescue team from RS5.33 Nteje swiftly transported the injured victims to Divine Care Hospital in Umunya for immediate medical attention.

Meanwhile, the deceased individuals were taken to Chira Hospital, pending confirmation by medical professionals. Following the necessary procedures and their bodies would be deposited at the New Jerusalem Mortuary in Nteje.

At the time of this report, the Sector Commander of the Anambra State Corps, Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi in collaboration with the Unit Commander in Nteje, was actively working to clear the obstruction caused by the crash.

Irelewuyi extended his sympathies to the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a swift recovery. He took the opportunity to remind motorists to exercise caution and remain observant of their surroundings while driving, emphasizing the importance of road safety.
