Kwara speaker Danladi wins APC governorship primary

Danladi Saliu the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly has been declared winner of the All-Progressives Congress, APC, governorship primary election.

Danladi secured victory after polling over 94,000 votes to defeat 14 other aspirants in the keenly contested primary election held across the state on Friday.

His closest rival, Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahya-Seriki, garnered 41,700 votes, while former Kwara APC Chairman, Bashir Bolarinwa, came a distant third with 22,118 votes.

The results were announced by Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, chairman of the APC governorship primary election supervisory committee.

Only three aspirants, Danladi, Professor Wale Sulaiman and Captain Mahmud were present at the venue during the official declaration of the results.

Meanwhile, Sen. Ahmed Wadada, representing Nasarawa West Senatorial District, has emerged winner of the APC governorship primary election.

Prof. Theodore Maiyaki, Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee in the state, announced the result on Friday in Lafia.

Maiyaki said that Wadada secured the highest number of valid votes cast by party members across the 147 electoral wards in the 13 Local Government Areas of the state, defeating six other aspirants in the contest.

According to him, Wadada polled 195,285 votes to clinch the party’s governorship ticket for the 2027 election.

He gave the breakdown of votes scored by other aspirants as follows: Tanimu Adabson, 65 votes, Dr Fatima Abdullahi-Adamu, 246 votes, Dr Hassan Liman SAN, 863 votes, and Dr Zakka Yakubu, 336 votes.

Others are Prof. Mohamed Sani-Haruna, 5,844 votes, and former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, who polled 39,675 votes.

Maiyaki said that the committee monitored the accreditation process and ensured transparency in the collation of results.

He said that having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and electoral guidelines, Wadada was duly declared winner and returned elected as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 governorship election in the state.
