The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, says it has deployed 1,889 personnel to ease traffic flow during the Eid-El-Kabir celebration in Kano State.

The Sector Commander, Idris Mohammed-Lawal, said this in a statement signed by the Corp’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Labaran that special patrol operations would run from May 25 to May 31, to reduce crashes, fatalities and injuries, and ensure free traffic flow.

“The deployment of 1,889 personnel including regular marshals and special marshals to maintain 24-hour patrol operations across the state’s 44 local government areas will ensure safer roads, smooth traffic flow, and prompt emergency response services.

“The command has deployed four ambulances, one heavy-duty tow truck, 24 patrol vehicles for prompt rescue and quick clearance of obstructions.

“It also deployed two operational motorcycles, radar guns, breathalyzers, and other traffic management facilities to strategic locations for rapid response and operational efficiency,” the sector commander said.

He further explained that to strengthen enforcement and ensure compliance with traffic regulations, mobile courts would remain fully operational across the state for speedy prosecution of traffic offenders, while emergency rescue teams have been placed on maximum alert to respond promptly to distressed situations.

Mohammed-Lawal added that enforcement would target offences including speeding, dangerous overtaking, lane indiscipline, overloading, phone use while driving, seat-belt violations and mechanically deficient vehicles.

He urged motorists and other road users to exercise patience, discipline, adherence to traffic regulations.

He also urged them to avoid excessive speed, dangerous overtaking, drunk driving, night journeys, overloading, and all forms of unsafe road behaviors capable of endangering lives and property.

The sector commander equally advised the general public to cooperate with personnel deployed on highways and make use of the FRSC toll-free emergency number 122 to report crashes, obstructions, or any traffic-related emergencies for immediate assistance.

He wished all Muslim faithful and residents of Kano State a peaceful, safe, and crash-free Eid El-Kabir celebration.
