Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has stepped in to support veteran Nollywood actor Sonny McDon by taking responsibility for his medical bills as he continues treatment for prostate cancer.
Naija News reports that the development was made public by J Martins, who serves as the governor’s Special Assistant on Entertainment and Tourism.
The actor has been battling the illness for several years and Governor Otti has now agreed to cover the cost of his treatment.
He wrote on his social media page: “I am pleased to announce that H.E @alexottiofr has taken over the medical expenses bill for one of abia’s legendary actor Mr. Sunny Macdon who has been battling with prostate cancer for some years now. The office of the SSA on Entertainment & Tourism appreciate his kind gesture.”

The intervention comes at a time when concerns are growing over the welfare and health of older actors in Nigeria’s film industry.
In recent years, several Nollywood veterans have appealed for support while dealing with health and financial challenges.
McDon is regarded as one of the experienced figures in Nollywood, with a career spanning more than three decades.
Over the years, he has worked as an actor, producer, director and motion picture programmer, contributing to the growth of the Nigerian film industry.
He has featured in a number of productions, including Amanyanabo: The Eagle, Force Empire and Domitilla: The Reboot.
