Governor Dauda Lawal has said Zamfara State is positioning itself to become a major player in the global lithium battery value chain as part of efforts to drive clean energy development and industrial growth.

The governor made the disclosure during the commissioning of the National Automotive Design and Development Council Automotive Training Centre in Gusau.

He said the state government was taking strategic steps to take advantage of opportunities in electric mobility and renewable energy technologies.

Lawal noted that the training center would help equip young Nigerians with technical skills needed in the rapidly evolving automotive and energy sectors.

He described the facility as a strategic intervention that supports the Federal Government’s industrialization agenda while preparing the state for future opportunities in the clean energy economy.

The governor disclosed that Zamfara was procuring more than 200 electric vehicles to strengthen interstate transportation services, adding that the center would serve as a technical hub for the maintenance and servicing of the vehicles.

According to him, the initiative will improve transportation efficiency, create jobs and build local technical capacity in the automotive sector.

Lawal reiterated his administration’s commitment to technical and vocational education, describing it as a critical tool for tackling unemployment, promoting entrepreneurship and stimulating economic growth.

He called on development partners, investors, financial institutions and federal agencies to collaborate with the state government in expanding access to skills acquisition and youth empowerment programmes.

“Sustainable development can only be achieved through collective efforts and strategic partnerships,” he said.

The governor also announced plans to construct an access road to the training center to improve connectivity and ease movement around the facility.
