The Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday ordered politician and online publisher Omoyele Sowore to be returned to the Kuje Correctional Centre pending June 30, when the court will hear his application seeking to set aside a bench warrant issued against him and the revocation of his bail.

Justice Mohammed Umar had on Monday revoked the bail earlier granted to Sowore in December 2025 on self-recognition and ordered that he be remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre.

Before the revocation of the bail, the court had directed Sowore to open his defence in the alleged cybercrime case filed against him by the Department of State Services.

At Wednesday’s resumed proceedings, Sowore’s lawyer, R. O. Adakonye, who appeared for Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, SAN, told the court that the matter was slated for hearing of the defence application to set aside the bench warrant and bail revocation, both arising from Sowore’s absence in court on June 16, 2026.

Counsel to the prosecution, A. T. Kehinde, SAN, opposed the application, informing the court that he had filed a counter-affidavit urging the judge to reject the request to vacate the bench warrant and restore Sowore’s bail.

Following arguments from both sides, Justice Umar adjourned the matter until June 30, 2026, for ruling on the application.

The defence also appealed to the court to release Sowore to counsel’s custody, with an undertaking to produce him in court on the next adjourned date. The judge, however, declined the request and ordered that Sowore be returned to the Kuje Correctional Centre.

Sowore is being prosecuted by the DSS over allegations of cyber-bullying after he allegedly made posts on his X and Facebook accounts in August 2025 describing President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal.”
