Eredo LCDA intensifies security to protect power grid

Security operatives deployed to Council Secretariat to tackle rising crime

Eredo Local Council Development Area, LCDA, in Lagos State has intensified security measures following the gradual restoration of electricity across its communities.

The council implemented the measure by mobilizing no fewer than 30 security operatives at its secretariat to curb insecurity.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Eredo and four other communities were beneficiaries of the recently inaugurated 505kW Epe Interconnected Mini Grid under the Interconnected Mini Grid Acceleration Scheme, a Federal Government project.

The Chairman of the council, Mr. Ismail Monsuru Akinloye, on Friday directed security personnel to intensify surveillance and patrols to protect public infrastructure from vandalism.

Akinloye also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to help safeguard lives, property and electrical installations.

The chairman said the strengthening of security across the area had become essential with the gradual restoration of electricity to the communities, adding that the renewed focus was on protecting public infrastructure and ensuring the safety of residents.

According to him, the return of electricity would stimulate economic and social activities, making it imperative to safeguard government facilities, electrical installations and other public assets from vandalism, theft and other criminal acts.

He said that, to this end, security personnel had been mobilized to intensify surveillance operations and increase routine patrols across strategic locations within the council area.

Akinloye described the restoration of electricity as a welcome development for the communities but stressed the need for residents to remain vigilant in protecting electrical installations and other public infrastructure from vandalism and theft.

He assured residents that the council would continue to priorities the security of lives and property, noting that the administration remained committed to maintaining a peaceful and secure environment for all.

The chairman said the council would not relent in its responsibility to ensure that residents continued to live and carry out their daily activities in a safe and secure environment.

He added that security was a collective responsibility and urged every resident to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that would help protect the communities and preserve the development being witnessed across Eredo LCDA.
