The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has extended the deadline for submission of lists of candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections by political parties by three days.
The commission announced on Sunday that the deadline, which was initially scheduled to expire on Saturday, July 11, 2026, has now been extended to midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
The statement was signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, who said the extension followed an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council on behalf of political parties that were unable to upload the names and personal particulars of their candidates within the stipulated timeline.
According to the commission, the extension is aimed at ensuring greater inclusivity in the electoral process while remaining within the provisions of the law.
INEC urged all political parties to take advantage of the additional window to upload the names and personal particulars of their candidates before the new deadline expires.
The extension comes as political parties conclude their primaries and prepare for the next phase of activities outlined in the commission’s revised timetable for the 2027 general election.

In a related development, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has successfully uploaded the names of its 2027 presidential candidate, his running mate and National Assembly candidates into the INEC nomination portal.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, PDP National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed hailed the successful uploading of candidates’ details as proof of his leadership’s commitment to ensuring the party’s full participation in the 2027 general elections.
“Today, we have taken another decisive step toward fulfilling that promise.
“As we await the conclusion of the upload of our governorship and state Houses of Assembly candidates, I, on behalf of the National Working Committee of our party, extend my heartfelt congratulations to all PDP members across Nigeria and around the world.
“Together, we will continue to build a stronger, more united party and a better future for our nation,” Mohammed said.
