Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza of the Kebbi State High Court has regained his freedom after spending one week in the custody of bandits who abducted him from his residence in the state.
A family member confirmed the judge’s release on Monday, stating that Justice Bunza arrived home safely a few hours earlier.
The relative expressed gratitude over the judge’s return, describing the development as a moment of relief and thanksgiving for the family.
“We are in jubilation and full of gratitude to God for seeing our own return safely from captivity,” the family member said. “He was just released and has returned home now after spending one week with the bandits.”
The family also appreciated the Kebbi State Judiciary, security agencies, and residents of the state for their support, prayers, and messages of sympathy throughout the period of the abduction.
“We sincerely thank and appreciate the Kebbi State Judiciary, the security agencies, and the entire people of Kebbi State who contributed in different ways, offered prayers, and sent messages of sympathy.

Justice Bunza was abducted from his residence in Kebbi State about a week ago, an incident that drew widespread concern among legal practitioners, government officials, and residents.
The abduction added to growing concerns over insecurity in parts of northern Nigeria, where armed groups have increasingly targeted residents, public officials, and travellers for ransom.
Kebbi State, located in Nigeria’s North-West region, has in recent years witnessed security challenges linked to banditry, including attacks on communities and kidnapping incidents.
Security agencies have continued operations aimed at combating criminal activities across the region, although kidnappings remain a major challenge in several northern states.
The safe return of Justice Bunza is expected to bring relief to the Kebbi State judiciary and the wider legal community, while attention is likely to focus on efforts to strengthen security and prevent similar incidents in the future.
