The Kano State Government has awarded contracts worth N27.8 billion for the construction and equipping of Information and Communication Technology, ICT, and Computer-Based Test, CBT, centres across the state’s 44 Local Government Areas.
The disclosure was contained in an official statement issued on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, by Aminu Bello-Sani, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Mohammed Tajo-Othman, disclosed the development during the formal contract signing ceremony held at the ministry’s headquarters in Kano.
Tajo-Othman said the initiative was designed to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural communities by bringing modern technology and e-examination facilities closer to residents across the state.
He described the project as a major milestone under the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, noting that the establishment of ICT and CBT centres in every local government area would expand access to digital opportunities for young people.
According to the commissioner, each of the 44 ultra-modern centres will be equipped with 300 desktop computers, high-capacity internet server networks and other essential technological infrastructure.
The centres will also have a triple-layer power supply system comprising connection to the national grid, industrial solar installations and standby generators to ensure uninterrupted operations.
Tajo-Othman noted that implementing a standardized ICT project simultaneously across all local government areas was a significant achievement, adding that the project is expected to be completed within 16 to 18 weeks.

The state government said six firms had been selected to execute the construction and technology components of the project across the various local councils.
The firms are Odaleg Properties and Constructions Limited, Aytaam Construction Limited, Trusted Development, KODAK PRIME, VIND R&D PARTNERSHIP Limited and CORNERSTONE CONSTRUCTION & ENGINEERING Limited.
Vivid R&D Partnership Limited will serve as the project consultant, with responsibility for overall supervision, technical compliance and quality assurance.
Representatives of the contracted companies reportedly pledged to comply with the required engineering specifications and complete the projects within the stipulated timeframe.
To strengthen accountability and ensure quality delivery, the ministry and the respective local council administrations will form joint inspection teams to conduct regular assessments of construction sites throughout the project.
The government also expects the completed facilities to serve as examination centres for major examination bodies, including the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, West African Examinations Council, WAEC, and National Examinations Council, NECO.
Beyond their use for examinations, the centres are expected to become permanent hubs for grassroots digital skills acquisition, technology training and local employment opportunities across Kano State.
