Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have repelled an attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, terrorists on a military base in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack occurred on September 7, according to Capt. Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer at the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, who disclosed the development in a statement on Tuesday.
Goni said the terrorists launched the attack on the military location but were unable to overrun the base as troops maintained their positions and mounted sustained resistance.
He said the attackers eventually withdrew after suffering casualties, following the determined response by the troops.
The military spokesperson said the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI provided timely Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, ISR, support throughout the engagement.
According to Goni, the air component subsequently carried out precision strikes against identified hostile elements as they attempted to withdraw from the area.
He said the strikes disrupted the terrorists’ movement and frustrated their efforts to regroup after the failed attack.

The Civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF, also contributed to the operation by providing useful local information and supporting the troops’ situational awareness during the encounter.
Goni disclosed that one soldier sustained a gunshot injury to the left arm during the engagement. He said the injured soldier was promptly evacuated for medical attention and stabilised.
“The soldier was stabilised and is responding to treatment, with his condition reported to be stable,” he said.
Following the withdrawal of the terrorists, troops commenced exploitation operations to assess the impact of the military response and gather further intelligence.
Goni said the operation would also involve efforts to recover weapons and equipment abandoned by the terrorists during their withdrawal.
He added that troops remained on heightened alert in Pulka and were conducting aggressive patrols, surveillance and other offensive and defensive operations to prevent further attacks.
The military urged residents and members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information about suspicious persons, movements or activities to the appropriate security formations.
Goni reaffirmed the military’s commitment to defeating terrorism and protecting lives and property across Borno State and other parts of the North-East.
The latest operation comes as security forces continue sustained efforts to disrupt terrorist activities and prevent insurgents from establishing or overrunning military positions in the region.
