Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has approved the release of two tranches of funds for the implementation of Ward Development Projects across the state’s 274 wards.
The funds are intended to clear the programme’s funding backlog and accelerate the execution of grassroots development projects across the 25 Local Government Areas.
Bago made the commitment during a meeting with chairmen of the Ward Development Projects from the 25 LGAs, led by Alhaji Shu’aibu Mairago, at the Government House in Minna, saying his administration was committed to executing landmark projects across all 274 wards as part of its rural renewal drive aimed at improving residents’ lives across the state.
He also pledged to increase the monthly funding for the Ward Development Projects to enable the programme to achieve greater impact.
Bago directed the project chairmen to liaise with relevant government agencies, including the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Primary Health Care Development Agency and Community and Social Development Agency, CSDA, before embarking on projects.

According to him, such coordination would help prevent duplication and conflicts among government-funded development projects.
The governor commended the Ward Development Project chairmen for their patriotism and sacrifices, assuring them of his continued support.
Earlier, Alhaji Shehu Kagara commended Bago for reviving the Ward Development Projects, describing the initiative as a strategic tool for accelerating rural development when adequately funded.
Kagara said funds previously released had already made a significant impact across the wards, while appealing to the governor to sustain the programme and increase its monthly disbursements.
He described the initiative as a major grassroots development strategy capable of strengthening the administration’s connection with the people.
Kagara, a former federal lawmaker, also assured Bago of the continued support of the Ward Development Project leadership for his second-term bid in the 2027 general elections.
He further commended the leadership and staff of the Ministry for Rural Development, which oversees the Ward Development Projects, for their cooperation and support.
