Stock market adds N315bn as bullish run persists

The Nigerian stock market has extended its winning streak to five consecutive sessions, with the benchmark All-Share Index, ASI, rising 0.20 per cent.

The positive performance adds N315 billion to investors’ wealth, as gains in 34 stocks, including Sovereign Trust Insurance, Champion Breweries, Livestock Feeds, Learn Africa and Mutual Benefits, outweigh losses in 26 equities.

Market capitalization increases from N158.399 trillion at the opening to N158.714 trillion at the close of trading. Similarly, the ASI advances by 487.28 points to close at 244,791.79, compared with 244,304.51 recorded on Tuesday.

The market’s year-to-date return consequently improves to 57.31 per cent, while market breadth closes positive with 34 gainers against 26 losers.

On the gainers’ chart, Sovereign Trust Insurance leads with a 9.69 per cent increase to close at N2.15 per share. Champion Breweries follows with a 9.50 per cent gain to N10.95, while Livestock Feeds rises 9.42 per cent to N7.55.

Learn Africa gains 9.09 per cent to settle at N8.40, while Mutual Benefits advances 8.93 per cent to close at N3.05 per share.

Conversely, Industrial and Medical Gases leads the losers’ chart, declining 9.93 per cent to N27.65 per share. John Holt follows with a 9.88 per cent loss to N7.30, while Livingtrust Mortgage Bank falls 9.84 per cent to N2.84.

Fidson Healthcare declines 9.19 per cent to close at N72.65, while Royal Exchange sheds 9 per cent to finish at 91 kobo per share.

Trading activity also strengthens during the session, with total volume rising 27.23 per cent to 662.43 million shares, valued at N37.45 billion across 63,271 deals.

Sterling Nigeria leads trading volume with 142.04 million shares, accounting for 21.44 per cent of the total volume traded.

Guaranty Trust Holding Company records the highest value traded at N5.27 billion, representing 14.07 per cent of the day’s total.
