Tragedy struck the residence of Imo State Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Investment, Rex Anunobi, as gunmen invaded the property and fatally shot a police inspector.
The Inspector was killed on Monday, September 14, at the commissioner’s residence in the state, according to the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, in a statement issued on Thursday, September 17.
Okoye identified the suspects as Olivia Patrick, 31, and ThankGod Mourice, 25. He said they were arrested at the scene shortly after the incident was reported.
Following the report, the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, CP Audu Garba Bosso, directed a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the Inspector’s death and ordered that those responsible be brought to justice.
In compliance with the directive, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigations Department, SCID, alongside the Divisional Police Officer of the New Owerri Division, visited the scene.
Okoye said necessary examinations were conducted at the scene, while relevant exhibits were recovered and secured. The remains of the deceased Inspector were subsequently deposited at a mortuary.

He added that the case had been transferred to the SCID for further investigation, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects who remained at large.
“The Commissioner of Police has directed the investigating team to ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law,” Okoye said.
He described the incident as a painful reminder of the risks and sacrifices police officers face in the discharge of their duties.
Bosso also commiserated with the family of the deceased Inspector and assured them that the command remained committed to ensuring that justice was served.
The police command said the situation was under control and that appropriate security measures were in place to safeguard lives and property across the state.
Okoye urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist the ongoing investigation.
