The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has forecast thunderstorms and rainfall across several parts of Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday, with strong winds expected to precede thunderstorms in some areas.
In its three-day weather outlook, the agency identified parts of the northern, North-Central and southern regions as areas likely to experience varying levels of rainfall and thunderstorms during the period.
For Monday, NiMet forecast morning thunderstorms accompanied by light rain over parts of Taraba and Kebbi states.
Later in the afternoon and evening, scattered thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected over parts of the North-East, Kaduna, Taraba and Kebbi.
In the North-Central region, the agency predicted thunderstorms with light rain over parts of Niger State in the morning, followed by thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rain over most parts of the region later in the day.
Across the southern region, NiMet forecast cloudy skies on Monday morning, with isolated thunderstorms and light rain over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states. Thunderstorms with light rain are expected across the region in the afternoon and evening.
For Tuesday, the agency forecast partly cloudy skies over the northern region in the morning, with thunderstorms and light rain over parts of Taraba. Later in the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rain are expected over most parts of the region.
In the North-Central region, partly cloudy conditions are expected in the morning, while thunderstorms with moderate rain are forecast over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa and Plateau states later in the day.

NiMet also forecast mostly cloudy skies across the southern region on Tuesday morning, with thunderstorms and light rain expected over parts of Ebonyi, Enugu, Abia and the South-South later in the day.
On Wednesday, partly cloudy skies are expected across the northern region in the morning, with thunderstorms and moderate rain over parts of Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Adamawa and Taraba states.
The agency further forecast thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rain across most parts of the northern region later on Wednesday.
For the North-Central region, NiMet predicted partly cloudy skies in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms and light rain over parts of the FCT, Plateau, Niger and Nasarawa states. Moderate rain and thunderstorms are expected over most parts of the region later in the day.
Across the southern region, cloudy skies are forecast for Wednesday morning, followed by thunderstorms and moderate rain over most parts of the region.
NiMet warned that strong winds could precede thunderstorms in areas where rainfall is expected and urged residents to take necessary precautions.
It advised the public to secure loose objects to prevent them from being blown away or causing injuries during strong winds.
The agency also urged motorists to avoid driving during heavy rainfall and advised residents to disconnect electrical appliances from power sockets during thunderstorms. Residents were further advised to stay away from tall trees to avoid injuries from falling branches or trees.
NiMet urged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports and flight documentation for effective operational planning. The agency also advised residents to stay informed through its regular weather updates.
