A 33-year-old housewife, Hauwa’u Haruna, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command over the alleged killing of her 43-year-old co-wife, Jamila Adamu, during a domestic incident in Bauchi metropolis.
The incident occurred at about 4:05pm on Sunday, September 27, 2026, after the C-Division Police Station received information about a confrontation involving the two women, who were co-wives in the same household.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the second wife, one Hauwa’u Haruna, 33 years old, allegedly acting under hallucinations, armed herself with a pestle and struck the first wife, one Jamila Adamu, 43 years old, on the forehead. Consequently, the victim fell unconscious,” the statement said.
Following the report, detectives attached to the C-Division were mobilized to the scene, where they documented the incident before taking the injured woman to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi.

A medical doctor at the hospital subsequently certified Adamu dead, while her remains were deposited at the mortuary pending an autopsy.
The police said Haruna was arrested in connection with the incident, while the pestle allegedly used in the attack was recovered and retained as an exhibit.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
The command said the investigation would establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the circumstances behind the police description of the suspect as allegedly acting while experiencing hallucinations. The allegation has not been independently established, and the suspect remains entitled to due process.
The police commissioner condoled with the deceased’s family and cautioned residents against domestic violence. He also advised families to seek timely medical and psychosocial support for relatives experiencing mental or behavioural difficulties.
The Bauchi Police Command said the investigation into Adamu’s death is ongoing, with the autopsy and further police inquiries expected to help establish the circumstances of the fatal incident.
