Real Madrid coach José Mourinho has denied making comments circulating in the media about Cristiano Ronaldo and the Portuguese Football Federation, FPF.
Mourinho rejected the reports as “fake news” in a statement shared by football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on X on Thursday.
“Too much fake news on my comments about Cristiano Ronaldo and the Portuguese Federation. I did not make any comment,” Mourinho said.
The denial comes after Ronaldo left Portugal’s training camp in Copenhagen ahead of the team’s UEFA Nations League match against Denmark.
Ronaldo confirmed on Wednesday that he had left the national team’s training camp.
The Portugal captain said he made the decision after the national team manager’s press conference and a conversation with FPF President Pedro Proença.
Ronaldo also said he would explain the reasons for his departure at a later time.
The FPF confirmed that the 41-year-old forward had left the squad and said preparations for the matches against Denmark and Norway would continue with the remaining players.

Ronaldo did not play in Portugal’s 2-1 Nations League victory over Norway on Sunday.
He remained on the bench throughout the match after coach Jorge Jesus decided not to bring him on.
Jesus later addressed Ronaldo’s absence from training and denied that the player had refused to train. He said Ronaldo was expected to participate in the next session.
Ronaldo subsequently did not join the team for the scheduled training session in Copenhagen before leaving the camp.
Mourinho’s denial specifically concerned comments attributed to him about Donaldson and the Portuguese Football Federation.
He said he had not made the comments circulating in the media.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo’s departure remains the latest development involving the Portugal captain ahead of the team’s Nations League fixture against Denmark.
The FPF said the remaining squad would continue preparations for the upcoming matches.
