Abia Governor Alex Otti is set to receive an international honour alongside American singer Adina Howard, NBA star Russell Westbrook and fashion designer Karl Bani at the 2026 Afro Awards in Los Angeles.
The awards ceremony, scheduled for Saturday in Los Angeles, California, will recognize individuals and organizations for their contributions to communities, states and countries.
The founder of the Afro Awards, Chief Taiwo Oduala, announced the honourees in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja.
Otti will receive the Transformer Leadership and Human Development Award for his contributions to leadership and human development.
Oduala described Otti as a distinguished personality whose achievements had earned recognition beyond Nigeria, highlighting the international impact of effective public leadership.
He said responsible leadership should prioritize humanitarian services, economic growth and societal development for the benefit of the people.
Oduala described the 2026 ceremony as an Afro-centric excellence award celebrating achievement, leadership, creativity and contributions to society.
He said the event would bring together personalities from entertainment, fashion, sports, business and public service, reflecting the international reach of the awards.

“This is bringing Africa and the world together, from political leaders to business executives, entertainers, athletes, filmmakers, fashion personalities and organisations,” he said.
Oduala said the awards would continue to highlight the contributions of people and institutions shaping Africa’s image and influence globally.
He listed previous Nigerian recipients of the Afro Awards to include business magnate Aliko Dangote, former President Good-luck Jonathan and Air Peace Chief Executive Officer, Dr Allen Onyema.
Others included music star Davido, Osun Gov. Ademola Adele and Kwara First Lady, Prof. Olufolake Abdulrazaq.
Oduala said the recipients reflected the broad range of individuals and institutions recognize for contributions to leadership, business, entertainment, culture, aviation and community development.
The Afro Awards was established to reward, inspire and encourage individuals and organisations making positive impacts in global society.
Since its inception, the awards have honoured more than 5,000 individuals involved in humanitarianism and philanthropy across American and African communities.
