Nigeria’s Super Falcons have secured a 2-0 victory over Comoros in the third round of the African qualifiers for the women’s football event at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
The match, played on Friday at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, saw the Nigerian side score twice in the second half to take an advantage into the return leg.
Michelle Alozie opened the scoring in the 48th minute after Gift Monday brought the ball down for her to finish, giving Nigeria a 1-0 lead.
Uchenna Kanu doubled the advantage in the 60th minute, heading home from a corner kick delivered by Jennifer Echegini.
The Super Falcons had several opportunities to score in the first half but failed to convert them.
In the 18th minute, Kanu hit the roof of the net following a swift counterattack, while Michelle Alozie forced a save from the Comoros goalkeeper two minutes later.

Rasheedat Ajibade also struck the woodwork in the 26th minute, with Gloria Ogbonna’s rebound effort going wide.
Despite Nigeria’s dominance and possession, both teams went into the break goalless.
The Super Falcons maintained their two-goal advantage in the closing stages to secure the victory.
The return leg is scheduled for October 13 at the same venue.
The winner of the two-legged tie will advance to face Morocco in the next stage of the African qualifiers following the withdrawal of the Republic of the Congo from the competition.
