A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced two men arrested by the Department of State Services, DSS, to life imprisonment for their membership of the proscribed Boko Haram terrorist group.
The defendants, Abba Mustapha and Bukar Ibrahim, both from Borno State, were convicted after pleading guilty to charges of belonging to the outlawed group, providing it with support, and concealing information about its activities.
Delivering judgment, Justice Salim Ibrahim sentenced the two men to life imprisonment on the first count and 20 years’ imprisonment on the second.

The sentences were handed down during the latest phase of the Federal Government’s mass trials of suspected terrorists, an exercise that began on Thursday and is being conducted simultaneously across several courtrooms.
Besides Justice Ibrahim, the judges handling the proceedings are Justices James Omotosho, Binta Nyako, Emeka Nwite, Obiora Egwuatu, Hauwa Yilwa, Joyce Abdulmalik and Peter Lifu.
No fewer than 34 suspects were listed for proceedings before Justice Ibrahim, while 25 were listed before Justice Lifu — an indication of the volume of cases the court is processing in the current session.
