Media Trust Group, publishers of Daily Trust and owners of Trust TV, Trust Radio and other platforms, announced on Friday that it will launch a Converged Digital Newsroom on Thursday, October 22, an initiative that will merge its editorial operations into a single, technology-driven newsroom.
Under the plan, journalists and editors across Daily Trust, Trust TV, Trust Radio, Aminiya, Digital Trust and the Group’s other platforms will work from a more integrated operation, sharing resources and producing content for print, broadcast and digital channels simultaneously.
The Group said the newsroom will deploy digital technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) tools, to support editorial workflows, content production, news distribution and audience insights. According to the Group, the technology is intended to improve efficiency and collaboration while keeping editorial judgement, verification and accountability in the hands of journalists.
Group Chief Executive Officer Ahmed I. Shekarau said the converged newsroom is a strategic step towards a more connected and responsive media organisation.
“The future of the media lies in our ability to understand and serve our audiences better. By bringing our platforms together, we are strengthening our capacity to deliver credible journalism, respond to changing audience needs and make our content more accessible across different channels,” he said.
Mr Shekarau added that the move positions the Group to take advantage of technological innovation, deepen its relationship with audiences and create greater value for its commercial partners.

Group Editorial Director and Editor-in-Chief Ibrahim Shehu Adamu said the initiative would encourage closer collaboration among journalists and editors and enable the Group to tell stories more effectively across platforms.
“Our audiences do not consume news in the same way or on the same platform. Our responsibility is to meet them where they are, with credible, relevant and engaging journalism,” he said.
Mr Adamu said AI-powered tools would help the newsroom work more efficiently, streamline processes and respond faster to developing stories, but insisted the Group’s commitment to accuracy, editorial independence and public-interest journalism was unchanged.
According to the Group, the integration is expected to produce more coordinated coverage, richer multimedia storytelling and easier access to news, analysis, interviews, video and audio content — particularly as more Nigerians consume news on mobile devices and digital channels.
It also creates room for cross-platform advertising campaigns spanning newspapers, television, radio and digital media, with the Group saying a deeper understanding of audience behaviour should allow for wider engagement and improved campaign measurement.
The Group described the newsroom as part of a broader strategy to build a digitally driven, audience-focused and commercially sustainable media organisation.
