Rachel Ojuromi, a Lagos-born creative, has become a global fashion sensation after debuting at Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2027 Paris Fashion Week show.

Before Rachel Ojuromi walked for Chanel’s Spring Summer 2027 show at the Grand Palais in Paris on October 5, she was making viral runway videos on the streets of Lagos with a community that refused to let her dream alone.

Beyond modeling, Rachel has carved out a space as a cultural curator. She founded Process Africa, a magazine dedicated to documenting African creativity, and has curated films at Home Movie Film Club, spotlighting emerging voices in Nigerian cinema.

These platforms reflect her commitment to amplifying African artistry and ensuring that local stories resonate on global stages.

At the centre of community is Debby Fasingha, her best friend, stylist and designer, who created all her looks from thrifted pieces bought in Yaba Market even when she could not afford it.

The two would dress up with no real plan and go outside to see what could happen, turning everyday Lagos scenes into fashion moments.

Behind the camera was Odey Ipka, who shot the weekly videos despite holding down a regular job, including the Chanel recreation that changed everything.

That recreation, of five looks from Chanel’s 2026 collection, was posted in July 2026 and caught the attention of Chanel Creative Director Matthieu Blazy, who commented Everything with a heart emoji.

American star SZA also reposted the video calling for agencies to sign her.

Rachel’s mother, Maria Osayi Ojuromi, who sold clothes all her life, was her first inspiration.

On her debut day, Rachel wrote that the moment was not for her but for her mother, for Debby who made garments when it was not profitable, for Odey who made time every week, and for friends who supported her even when she seemed insane.

Beyond them were the neighbours and strangers on the streets who stopped, watched and asked for her TikTok, who had long called her Ms Paris before Paris ever happened.

It is a name that became family. As Rachel said, if she ever made it to Paris, those who called her Ms Paris would say that is our kid.

That spirit is what led her to found The Process Africa in 2023, a platform to document the hard, invisible work behind young African creativity, and to open her own home in Lagos as a communal workspace where peers could create, collaborate and dream out loud.

Her journey from Lagos streets to the Chanel runway is proof that a local idea, backed by a loyal community, can open a global stage.
