The Peoples Democratic Party-led Rainbow Coalition in Bayelsa State will begin its campaign for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election with three days of fasting and prayers from November 5 to 7 ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The coalition’s timetable provides for a solemn assembly during the three-day period, followed by a campaign dedication and thanksgiving service on November 8.

The schedule was announced on Tuesday in a statement by the Bayelsa PDP Publicity Secretary, Ikaebimo Mark, and signed by the coalition’s State Organizing Secretary, T. Godspower.

The coalition plans to inaugurate its state campaign council, commission its campaign secretariat and unveil campaign buses donated by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on November 9.

The schedule also provides for the distribution of campaign materials, including T-shirts, face caps and banners, across the state’s local government areas from November 10 to 15.

Campaign flag-offs and flag presentations to candidates in the three senatorial districts -Bayelsa Central, Bayelsa West and Bayelsa East – are scheduled for November 17 to 21.

The activities will culminate in a grand finale on December 12, when the coalition plans to formally adopt and endorse Tinubu as its presidential candidate.

The Bayelsa PDP leader, Chief Alabh Turnah, expressed confidence that the coalition would mobilise voters across the state’s 105 wards for Tinubu’s re-election and support candidates associated with the alliance.

Turnah described the inclusion of Wike, the national leader and grand patron of the National Rainbow Coalition, in Tinubu’s campaign structure as an opportunity to strengthen the President’s support across party lines.

He said the coalition would highlight projects executed by the Niger Delta Development Commission in Bayelsa as part of its campaign to persuade voters to support Tinubu.

“President Bola Tinubu has demonstrated pragmatic leadership with the inclusion of our national leader and patron, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, in the national Presidential Campaign Council,” Turnah said.

He said the coalition would activate its political structures across Bayelsa to mobilise support for the President.

“On our part in Bayelsa, we are going to reciprocate President Bola Tinubu’s confidence by mobilising all our members across the 105 wards in the state to deliver massive votes for his re-election,” he said.

Turnah claimed that the PDP had stronger grassroots support than other parties in the state and expressed confidence that its members would back Tinubu through the Rainbow Coalition.

He warned that relying solely on the Bayelsa APC leadership to mobilise support for Tinubu could undermine the President’s campaign in the state.

“We are aware that it is too risky to leave the re-election of President Tinubu in the hands of the APC leadership in the state because of its lack of grassroots appeal in several of our communities. This is one of the reasons we are taking the lead to kick-start the campaign for President Tinubu’s re-election,” he said.

Turnah urged the APC leadership to cooperate with the coalition rather than treat it as a political opponent.

“We want to appeal again to the APC leadership not to see us as an adversary but as a partner willing to work hand-in-hand to deliver President Bola Tinubu in Bayelsa State,” he said.

He called on the state APC leadership to work with the coalition to mobilise support for Tinubu and defeat opposition parties in the state.
