One person has died and three adult men have been rescued following the collapse of a two-storey building under construction in the Fadeyi area of Lagos State.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Friday, 23rd October by its Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.
Oke-Osanyintolu said the building collapsed in the early hours of Friday, adding that search and rescue operations were ongoing to determine whether more people were trapped beneath the rubble.
He said the agency received a distress call at 12:10 a.m., prompting the immediate activation of its Cobra Response Team from its Onipanu Base.
The team arrived at the scene two minutes later and discovered that the building under construction had collapsed, with construction workers suspected to be trapped beneath the debris.
Oke-Osanyintolu said the search and rescue operations began immediately, with safety measures put in place to protect victims and emergency responders.

He added that rescuers heard groaning sounds beneath the rubble, raising hopes that more people could be alive.
The agency deployed an excavator to support the operation.

Responders at the scene included the LASEMA Response Team, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASAMBUS and officers of the Nigeria Police Force from the Alagbon Division.
The LASEMA permanent secretary said the cause of the collapse had yet to be determined and would be investigated by the relevant regulatory agencies.
