President Bola Tinubu has approved N18 billion for the payment of the Group Life Assurance benefits and other entitlements to the families of fallen heroes.

At the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem and Appeal Fund launch, which took place on Wednesday in Abuja at the presidential villa, Tinubu made this announcement.

He declared that the nation owed its brave soldiers, who took on the task of defending the nation, a debt of gratitude.

“I have approved the sum of N18 billion for the payment of their Group Life Assurance in appreciation of the men and women who have served in our armed forces, and to emphasize this government’s commitment to their welfare.”

“The payment will also cater for the benefits and other entitlements to the families of service members who lost their lives in the line of duty.

“I also call on businesses to key into this patriotic spirit and support our service personnel, whether in the form of preferential treatment, discounts, or rebates on goods and services.”

Tinubu pledged that all Nigerian security agencies would be strengthened and repositioned by his administration.

We have to treat this commitment with seriousness. Our main goal is to create a safe environment free from threats and criminal activity so that everyone who lives within our borders can prosper and live in peace.

According to Tinubu, the Defense Health Maintenance L.td. DHML is meeting its expectations in terms of offering veterans healthcare services.

However, we’ll go further. The extension of its services through the creation of state and zonal offices as well as ongoing public awareness campaigns is equally significant.

“As a government, we will persist in giving our valued veterans and citizens access to high-quality healthcare services.”

“It continues to be a rallying point for veterans, to cater for the welfare of their ailing members,” he said, praising the Nigerian Legion, which is run by the Ministry of Defense and coordinated by it.

“As the Nigerian Legion’s Grand Patron, I wish to pledge my full support and that of the Federal Government, and I enjoin the leadership to continue in this spirit.”

He expressed gratitude to state governors and patrons in each state for their assistance to the Nigerian Legion.

Instead of giving up, the president urged them to intensify their efforts.

Additionally, he urged federal and state government organizations to keep using the Nigerian Legion’s services for security and other administrative support.

“Our veterans still have a ton of potential that can be used for the good of the country.

“The emblem continues to be a sign of remembering and a ray of hope for this nation’s peaceful future.

It is also our modest method of showing our gratitude to the families of their departed coworkers and veterans.

“Therefore, I would like to extend an invitation to all Nigerians and foreigners living in the nation, regardless of their political or religious views, to proudly wear the emblem and show their support for those who gave their lives to ensure the safety and stability of our beloved nation.”

Additionally, Tinubu urged generous donations in support of veterans and the families of fallen heroes.

Alhaji Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, expressed gratitude to the fallen heroes for their immense sacrifices on behalf of the nation.

“Every year, the President, together with other members of the Federal Executive Council, the service chiefs, and the Minister of Defense, commemorate this day in recognition of the services they provided to keep our nation together.”

Additionally, Gen. Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, stated that the incident demonstrated the Tinubu government’s gratitude and concern for the sacrifice made by the armed forces.

“We have a lot of widows, orphans, and those without breadwinners because of their sacrifices,” the speaker continued. “This is significant for us because it tells us that we have not been forgotten.”

Additionally, knowing that the country is firmly behind you no matter what happens to you gives those of them still in service a boost in morale.

The National Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Retired Maj.-Gen. Abdulmalik Jubril, expressed similar sentiments: “I feel highly fulfilled with President Bola Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, for launching the emblem for the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.”

“It is encouraging to see the large number of attendees, as well as the promises and donations made to support the families of the fallen heroes.

Therefore, we are overjoyed with today’s accomplishment. For us, it’s really memorable.
