The House of Representatives is set to investigate the funds spent on the postponed 2023 population and housing census by the National Population Commission, NPC. This decision follows a motion highlighting the 200 billion naira that has been spent on the census.
The lawmakers, however, disagreed on conducting the census this year due to insecurity.
The 2023 Population and Housing Census, originally slated for May 3–7, has been rescheduled to a date to be determined by the incoming administration, per President Muhammadu Buhari’s approval.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari announced in April that the population and housing census, which was originally scheduled for May 3–7, 2023, would be postponed indefinitely.
After a meeting with Nasir Isa-Kwarra, the chairman of the National Population Commission, and his team, as well as some members of the former Federal Executive Council, Buhari gave the postponement his approval.
