In a deplorable incident that unfolded on the Oshodi-Gbagada expressway in Lagos State, two dedicated female officials of the Lagos Waste Management Authority ,LAWMA, lost their lives while on duty.

The heart-wrenching incident occurred when an unidentified driver, attempting to escape a raid by officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency, fatally struck the two LAWMA women.

The incident took place around the Charlie Boy bus-stop on Monday, leaving the two women dead on the spot.

Their lifeless bodies were discovered in a drainage channel, casting a somber atmosphere over the scene as onlookers mourned the tragic loss.

An eyewitness vividly described the harrowing accident: “It was a ghastly accident; two LAWMA women were just knocked down by a Sienna vehicle while they were carrying out their duty.

We don’t know what was wrong with the driver; he just drove straight here and hit the two women. It is such a pity. The driver has been arrested and handed over to the police.”

The aftermath of the incident led to a significant traffic jam on the Oshodi-Gbagada motorway, with hundreds of cars and commuters stranded for hours.

The situation worsened when people blocked both routes of the motorway, compounding the traffic congestion.

Law enforcement authorities swiftly arrived at the scene to manage the situation and prevent further chaos.

The tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the risks faced by frontline workers diligently performing their duties and underscores the need for enhanced safety measures on busy roadways.

The loss of these two LAWMA officials is a profound tragedy that resonates with empathy and emphasizes the importance of prioritizing safety on our roads.
