In a chilling turn of events, the shadow of crime has cast its ominous veil over the quiet town of Lafia, Nasarawa State, as news unfolds of the abduction of Isaac Bature Gbaja, an assistant manager with the Central Bank of Nigeriaby unknown gunmen.

The incident, shrouded in mystery, unfolded on a seemingly ordinary Monday evening, November 13, 2023, leaving the community in shock and disbelief.

The unfortunate episode took place at the most unexpected of locations – near MACFES Royal Suites, along Kwandere Road, Tudun Gwandara in Lafia. It was around 8 pm when Gbaja, accompanied by two other unidentified individuals, fell victim to the sinister plans of unknown gunmen.

What was meant to be an ordinary evening, perhaps spent in the warmth of family or the camaraderie of a local joint, turned into a nightmare for the assistant manager and his companions.

As the news of the abduction spread like wildfire, a pall of anxiety settled over the town. Gbaja’s family and the entire community grappled with a sense of fear and uncertainty. What had been a peaceful town now found itself grappling with the harsh reality of criminal activities that had struck uncomfortably close to home.

The situation took a dire turn when, just three days after the abduction, the kidnappers reached out to Gbaja’s family. The demand they presented was as audacious as it was heart-wrenching – a staggering N10 million as ransom for the safe release of the captive.

The family, thrust into the throes of desperation, now faced the agonizing dilemma of securing the freedom of their loved one at a considerable cost.

This unsettling event unfolded merely 24 hours after the release of Agidi Bulus Ajeh, a councillor in Lafia Local Government Council, who had also fallen prey to the menace of kidnapping. The sudden surge in such incidents has left the community on edge, questioning the security measures in place and the safety of their everyday lives.

In the face of such adversity, the townspeople rally together, hoping and praying for Gbaja’s safe return. The quiet streets of Lafia are now filled with whispered concerns and shared anxieties as the community waits with bated breath, yearning for the resolution of this harrowing ordeal.
