In the aftermath of the Court of Appeal’s nullification of his election, former Kano Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has expressed his intention to appeal the decision at the Supreme Court.

In a statement released on Saturday, Yusuf, who was dismissed by the court, conveyed his confidence in the Supreme Court’s ability to restore what he believes is the mandate given to him by the people of Kano State.

Yusuf, a member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party , NNPP, emphasized that the decision to appeal was made in consultation with the party’s stakeholders. He stated, “I hereby inform the people of Kano State and well-meaning Nigerians that based on the consensus of our stakeholders, we have instructed our lawyers to appeal against the judgment at the Supreme Court.”

Expressing optimism, Yusuf asserted that the Supreme Court would overturn what he referred to as “miscarriages of justice” by both the Election Petition Tribunal and the Court of Appeal. He remained steadfast in his belief that the Supreme Court would reinstate the mandate he claims was given to him by the people of Kano State.

Addressing the citizens of Kano, Yusuf urged them to carry on with their lawful activities, assuring them that the government had taken the necessary measures to ensure the security of their lives and property.

Despite the setback, he characterized his loss at the Court of Appeal as a temporary setback, emphasizing that it would not deter his administration from pursuing its commitment to impactful projects and programs aimed at restoring the state’s lost glory.

As Yusuf looks forward to the Supreme Court’s decision, he pledged to continue rolling out initiatives to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Kano State, demonstrating resilience in the face of the legal challenges.

The appeal process is anticipated to be a critical juncture in determining the final outcome of the disputed election.
