A review of European Union development aid for the Palestinians has so far revealed no evidence of misuse by the the militant Palestinian organisation Hamas, according to the European Commission.
“No evidence has been found to date that money has been diverted for unintended purposes,” the Commission announced on Tuesday.
According to the authority, contracts with non-governmental organisations and the Palestinian Authority were reviewed.
Humanitarian aid was excluded from the review.
This usually refers to emergency and immediate aid including support for the delivery of medicine and food.
The Commission announced that it would review its development aid to the Palestinians after the Hamas attack on Oct. 7.
Germany’s Development Ministry has also said that it has scrutinised all of Germany’s support programmes in the Palestinian Territories.
“We have found nothing,” said State Secretary Jochen Flasbarth on Tuesday in Brussels.
Cooperation with The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in particular will continue in the Gaza Strip and Jordan, he said.
The review of the other areas is still ongoing, but should be finalised soon, Flasbarth said.
