In a resounding declaration at the 10th German-Nigerian Business Forum in Berlin, President Bola Tinubu asserted that his transformative reforms since assuming office on May 29, 2023, make him a contender for the Guinness World Records.
The seasoned politician, drawing from his impactful tenure as Lagos State governor from 1999 to 2007, asserted that his leadership elevated the state from ground zero to the fifth-largest economy on the African continent.
“With eight consecutive years as the governor of Lagos, I can proudly beat my chest that Lagos State has emerged as the fifth-largest economy in Africa, rising from obscurity. This remarkable track record propelled me to the presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Tinubu proclaimed passionately.
Addressing concerns about potential obstacles, the President, who has a background in the private sector and served as the treasurer of Exxon Mobil, confidently challenged skeptics. “For those who fear various obstacles, look at me; I come from the private sector, and I’m one of you, trained by Deloitte. Define corporate governance in any way, and I am in it.”
He further highlighted his commitment to reforms, emphasizing that Nigeria voted for him based on the promise of change. “Nigeria voted for me for reforms, and from day one of my inauguration, I started the reforms. To me, if you didn’t mention me in the Guinness Book of Records, I’d thrive to find a way to insert myself because I did it without expectation,” Tinubu asserted, referencing his inaugural speech that laid out his reform agenda.
Tinubu’s bold remarks followed the signing of two significant agreements between Nigerian and German companies in Berlin on Tuesday. The President’s vision for reform and development resonates with his aspirations to etch his name into the annals of history, symbolized by the Guinness World Records.
As Nigeria continues on its journey of change under his leadership, the narrative unfolds with promises of innovation, growth, and a lasting legacy.
