In a proactive response to the ongoing conflict in Sudan, the Jigawa State Government has taken decisive steps to transfer 10 students under its sponsorship from the International University of Africa in Khartoum to the Integral University in India.

The government has allocated a sum of $65,000 for this purpose, covering various expenses such as tuition fees, accommodation, application fees, and foreign support services for the students.

The announcement was made by the State’s Commissioner for Information, Youths, Sports, and Culture, Alhaji Sagir Musa, through an official statement released in Dutse on Thursday. The decision to facilitate the transfer was reached during a meeting of the State Executive Council held on Wednesday.

This move by the Jigawa State Government reflects a commitment to the welfare and safety of its sponsored students, considering the challenges posed by the conflict in Sudan. By approving funds for the relocation of these students to Integral University in India, the government aims to ensure their uninterrupted academic progress and well-being.

The decision underscores the state’s proactive and compassionate approach to safeguarding the educational pursuits of its students, even in the face of unforeseen geopolitical challenges. As the conflict in Sudan continues, the government’s swift response demonstrates a commitment to the educational aspirations and safety of its citizens.

This allocation of funds reflects a broader acknowledgment of the importance of international cooperation and the need to adapt swiftly to changing circumstances, particularly when it comes to ensuring the well-being of students pursuing education abroad.

The Jigawa State Government’s commitment to the seamless transfer of these students to a more stable environment is a testament to its dedication to the educational development and safety of its citizens.

“The Council has approved a memo presented by Ministry of Higher Education for the payment of tuition fees, accommodation, application fees and foreign students support services in respect of 10 Jigawa transferred students from Sudan’s International University of Africa, Khartoum to Integral University, India at the cost $65,650.

“Similarly, the council has approved the sum of N53,562, 295.80 only for the payment of 12 months living allowances, visa, air tickets and other logistics for travel arrangements for the students”, Musa said.

He added that the council also received progress reports from various committees constituted by Gov. Umar Namadi on the State COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus, Drug Revolving Fund and Higher Education Committees of Inquiries into the Activities of College of Education and Islamic Studies Ringim, College of Education Gumel and Jigawa Polytechnic, Dutse respectively.

The commissioner added that after the presentations, the council deliberated and unanimously agreed to set up a committee to come up with white papers on each of the reports.
