In a resplendent event held on Sunday in Lagos, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State was bestowed with the highly coveted Governor of the Year award at the prestigious PINK Awards.
The ceremony also recognized distinguished individuals, with notable personalities such as Speaker Mudashiru Obasa of the Lagos State House of Assembly and Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi earning accolades for their remarkable contributions.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was conferred upon Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, recognizing his enduring impact on the political landscape of Lagos State.
Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Constituency, was acknowledged as the Philanthropist of the Year 2023, underscoring his significant contributions to various sectors, including employment, empowerment, rural development, health, and education.
The awards, presented during the fifth anniversary of the PINK Awards, celebrate individuals who have distinguished themselves in diverse fields of endeavor. Dr. Joe Odumakin, the Promoter of the PINK Awards, explained that PINK stands for Prestige, Integrity, Nobility, and Knowledge, highlighting the values the awards aim to uphold.
Addressing the audience, Dr. Odumakin urged the youth to emulate the virtues exemplified by the awardees, emphasizing qualities such as simplicity, humility, courage, and resilience.
She encouraged the youth to draw inspiration from the achievements of the recipients and emphasized the importance of rejecting despair, stating, “Suicide is not an option regardless of whatever situation you find yourselves.”
Senator Fadahunsi, the keynote speaker, expressed gratitude for the recognition and stressed the essence of philanthropy as adding value to people’s lives. He urged his colleagues in government to prioritize building the people, as a nation of peace and prosperity would emerge from the well-being of its citizens.
Representing Governor Makinde, Chief of Staff Mr. Segun Ogunwuyi acknowledged the award as a call for increased efforts, pledging the commitment of the governor’s administration to elevate people from poverty to prosperity.
Other recipients of the PINK Awards included Oba Sulaimon Raji, Righteousman Erhabor, Chidi Mokeme, Alhaja Salawa Abeni, and Prince Adebiyi Adesina, all recognized for their outstanding contributions in their respective fields.
The ceremony marked not only a celebration of individual achievements but also a collective call to inspire positive change and impact in the society.
