In a tragic and harrowing incident, a four-year-old American girl, Abigail, was released by the Islamist group Hamas after enduring a horrifying ordeal.

Abigail’s parents were murdered by Hamas terrorists in a kibbutz on the border with the Gaza Strip. The incident, which occurred on Oct. 7, involved the invasion of the family’s home by armed terrorists.

Abigail, along with her two siblings, aged 10 and 6, survived the attack by hiding in a closet for 14 hours before being rescued. The assailants shot the children’s mother, and as Abigail’s father protected her, he was also fatally shot.

Initially presumed dead, Abigail crawled out from under her father’s body and sought refuge in a neighbor’s house.

The terrorists abducted Abigail, along with another family of five, taking them to the Gaza Strip among many other civilians. Abigail spent her fourth birthday in captivity, a deeply distressing reality after the trauma she had endured.

U.S. President Joe Biden expressed his sentiments, stating, “What she endured is unthinkable,” upon Abigail’s release on Sunday. She became the first U.S. citizen among the hostages freed in the agreement between Israel and Hamas.

Biden acknowledged the joy of her return but noted the sadness of her reality without parents.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also shared a video message, saying, “She has no parents, but she has an entire nation that hugs her, and we will take care of all her needs.”

Abigail will now be reunited with her siblings and will live with her aunt, uncle, and grandparents in Israel. The release of 58 hostages from Hamas control has occurred since Friday, with another 10 expected to be released on Monday.

The story of Abigail’s resilience and the collective efforts to support her highlights the profound impact of conflict on innocent lives.
